"KNOCK-KNOCK"

Some time ago I was talking to a couple addicts I work with about their addictions.  One was pretty hooked on QVC and the other on e-bay.  They were telling me what fun it was to have the UPS or FedEx guy show up with "presents."  And so was born our little joke that "knock-knock" meant presents for moi. I have never purchased anything from QVC or e-bay but I like presents too.  Mine tend to be delivered as well.  I just never know when or what I'm getting. Last week I came home to find this on the door step of my studio. I was more than delighted.  It is really weird because this was the exact shape of chairs I had been attracted to lately.  Want to see the back?  Trust me, you want to see the back. Not everyone's style, I'm sure, but I LOVE it! I immediately took these pictures before I moved it inside.  Then I tossed a few thoughts around in my mind about who might have left it.  You see, this is not so unusual.  It is ho...

Justify the Addiction

The lead in here is that I am admitting I have a serious addiction and it is not alcohol or cigarettes.  I'm not a slave to fashion.  In fact I hate shopping for clothes and shoes.  I don't adopt stray dogs or cats or hang out in the pet store.  I am not a traveler or a trip taker.  I rarely even go to the movies. Do you think that's enough paving the way with what I don't do that I can now explain my addiction to furniture?  It really is serious.  I call it rescuing furniture and that's partially true, but the truth is, if  I didn't adopt a piece someone else would.  Yesterday I had my usual Sunday morning coffee with a couple friends at a place that just happened to be a few blocks from a resale shop that is open on Sundays.  Now, to me that was a direct invitation to drop by. So without further ado, this is what I bought. Side view Back view, and yes the handle swayed me a little. The great part is, there ...

Two by Two

I love the ritual of walking a few blocks for my morning coffee.  I know it would be considerably cheaper to "drink" at home but there is more to it than the coffee.  Yesterday as I headed out the door, I paused to dead head my geraniums.  As I walked up to the yard waste dumpster to drop the spent blossoms, I was startled by a pair of orphans.  They were clinging to each other and looking very forlorn after a night out in the rain.  Their hair was tangled and they sorely need a bath.  Now remember, this is before coffee so I'm not firing on all cylninders. Unlike my blog from yesterday, I did not hesitate.  I scooped one under each arm and hauled them back to my studio.  You cannot tell by this picture but the paint is peeling and it's obvious they were a deep red at one time.  The wheels are in motion on what to do with this find.  They will reappear in a later post.  Let me know if you recognize them.
