Six New Circular Collages

You may remember, this challenge consists of five prompts plus a bonus prompt. I listed the prompts because some of the collages seem a little wacky unless you know what the prompts are.

So here we go with #15

                  1. A stamp or seal impression

                  2. Something that flies

                  3. Something found in a kitchen

                  4. A piece of wrapping paper with bright colors

                  5. A photograph of a landmark.

                  6. Bonus: An interesting texture.

It is a bit hard to see but there is a bird in flight on the reflective circle and it is embossed so that covers prompt 1 & 2,  The rocket flying upwards doubles up on prompt 2.  The background paper is actually gift wrap. You see a small bit of what is a large world map. The second circle behind the embossed circle is the textured piece. The unevenness comes from strips of what seems like a very thin wood strips randomly scattered in the paper.

Number 16

                 1.  Something that makes you happy

                 2.  A form

                 3.  Text in a language foreign to you

                 4.  A geometric design

                 5. Something outdated

                6. Bonus: A sticker

The something that makes me happy is: making these collages. The sticker is the scissors. The rest of the prompts should be easy enough to identify.

Number 17

1. A ladder or steps

2. Aged or discolored paper

3. Something reflective

4. A quote or a line of text from a poem

5. A photograph of a crowded place in the world

6. Photograph: Graph paper

I took some liberty with the prompts on this one. The steps were created by cutting the graph paper to look like steps viewed from the side. The copper paper is the reflective.

Number 18

1. An instrument with keys

2. Handwriting from a journal or a letter

3. patterned washi tape

4. Piece of striped paper or fabric

5. An image of a window or arch

6. Bonus: hole reinforcer

The handwriting was the first layer and as so often happens it gets buried by the other elements but there are bits sticking out from behind the stained glass window. I skipped the bonus prompt. This is one of my favorites. I used a photograph of a stained glass window that I took in a London church.

Number 19

1. A hand or hands
2. Two postage stamps
3. Single word that inspires you
4. Mountain or a hill
5. Piece from a calendar or planner
6. Bonus: A pattern with circles or dots

Not my favorite but I did cover all the prompts. I actually started with the bonus prompt as the background, Hard to see but it is (I think) twelve concentric circles in different colors. I think everything else is obvious.

Number 20

1.  Picture of an animal in motion

2.  Decorative element

3.  Photo of reflection in water

4.  Something that starts with "P."

5. A picture of a book or stack of books

6.  Bonus: A clipping of a headline in Serif font

The brand is not the headline specified in the prompts but I chose to use the circle with the brand in a Serif font instead. I needed something for the horse to walk on so I added the foreground. I know "pony" is a bit of a stretch for the word "p" but close enough for me. My decorative element is a jewel on the harness where it crosses the horse's forehead. Since I implemented the bonus, I was allowed to skip another prompt. I thought about using the pocket with a magazine cover for the fifth prompt but it really distracted from the rest of the collage so I left it off. (Shown below)

I am currently two weeks behind on circle prompts and a week behind on the ABC and Full deck challenge so I will be back with another post when I have completed those.

On The Upswing

After the last post, it seemed a good idea to do a follow up post to report that things are moving along nicely. This shot was taken before the remodel started.  The door at the end of the hallway leads into the bath now being remodeled. This is where the changes started.  The trim is off the doorway and the door opening will be enlarged to the width of the hallway. This shot taken of that same area now looks like this.  By closing the entrance from the hallway, that bathroom will now be the master bath by keeping the entrance from the bedroom only. This is how it looks from the bathroom side.  the door on the left leads to the hallway and the one on the right into the bedroom. Now it looks like this.  Part of the hallway has become part of the bathroom.  This is where the vanity will be installed.  The partial doorway you see on the right leads to the bedroom. Turning 180 degrees and looking across the room to the opposite cor...

Behind The Scenes

There is always so much that has to happen in a rehab that can't be documented as easily as progress photos or before and after shots.  Hours are spent selecting tile, choosing the perfect wall color, and even figuring out what shade of grout will make that tile sing. Then comes weighing in on the best pattern for tile layout. The internet is invaluable when searching for light fixtures, but it can also take you down the rabbit hole with the thousands of choices. This one is actually as long as it looks--48 inches.  Hopefully it looks good in place. (I know, weird looking.  It's upside down in this picture.) Speaking of getting lost scrolling through products on line, I got sidetracked for hours on one site that had 27,877 shower curtains. SERIOUSLY!!  It's easy to lose focus, Then there are faucets and shower heads to think about.  EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE WORTH A COUPLE  HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT A ...

Out of No Where

Isn't it uncanny how a project can sneak into an already crowded schedule? Recently a friend invited me to do a walk through on a two-family he was planning to buy.  A couple pieces of furniture had been left behind and they were dumpster material to him.  Did I go with him thinking there was something there for me?   NO. Was I looking for something in particular? NO.  Did the thought of finding a new project ever cross my mind? NO!  But, see for yourself.  Could you have passed this up?  It was sturdy (translates to a little heavy). There was nothing wrong with it.  It even had all the shelves and the pins that hold them in place.  And without the shelves it was not quite as heavy.  (Try telling me that as my friend and I are hauling it down a flight of stairs.)  More shelving on the side made it even more practical.  I'm sure they could be used for something besides VHS tapes. Here it is in my studio w...
