Catch Up

A little behind on the posting but I think I can get caught up with this post.

I'm going to start with the ABC Challenge as I only have two of those. I left off last time with the letter K, so I have I for you and I just finished M today!

The prompts for L are: Lilac, Light, Layers and Lighthouse.

I probably should have used something different to place behind the card while I took the picture. Sometimes I just grab something that is handy. It is hard to notice but the lilacs in the top right corner do extend past the card. The land and the lighthouse was a bigger picture on a larger page so I tore strips from top to bottom and then left some out and worked to create a coherent landscape from what was left. It actually worked out much better than I thought it would. Those strips are my layers. The light next to the woman is an addition. I added the lilac stamp for the color and the lilacs at the top to fulfill that prompt.

The letter M has prompts of Music, Mexico, Mail and the bonus prompt: Magnet. I chose to skip the bonus prompt on this one.

I should probably lighten this photo a bit. Will see how it looks once I publish. Anyway, I think the prompts are obvious enough. This one really took a direction of its own so I felt like I had to keep coming up with ways to fix things in order to keep going. There were a couple close calls when I thought it was a lost cause but in the end, I'm okay with it.

Now for the 2025cwp Challenge. These are ones done on a 4" coaster circle.

We ended with Card #23 and I have three more for you today.

Prompts for #24

1. Something that glows in the dark or appears to (stars)

2. A soft texture (faux leather triangle)

3. A page with a water stain or smudge

4. Tea cup or a coffee mug

5.. Image of a vintage sign or poster

6. Bonus: Lace real or paper or otherwise

Prompts for #25

1. An open doorway or threshold

2. Something that represents sleep (Zzz)

3. A surreal or abstract image

4. Something that has been discarded (background paper)

5. A piece of painted paper (the kite)

6. Bonus: A piece of string

And the final circle piece for today.

This one all came from the pages of one children's book. The two children floating their sailboat in the water rushing along the curb are from one page. The little girl in her boots that I painted orange to fulfill a prompt is from another page. The man holding the child is from another page. I gave the youngster a lollipop to fulfill another prompt. The rainy sky and the umbrella came from the end page of the book.

Prompts for #26

1. An umbrella or a parasol

2. Something edible

3. Yellow or orange

4. A piece of clothing

5. Something that moves or flows

6. Bonus: a fingerprint (It is there but it is in the water along the curb so pretty much impossible to see)

I have three from the Full Deck Challenge.

#23 had a prompt of REPEAT.

My constant color is written on the tag hanging out of the pocket. The color word is canteloupe. The carry forward would be the rub on numbers and the eyelet.

#24 had a prompt of: THREADS.

I used three different colors of embroidery thread to satisfy the prompt. The gold piece in the middle is something that hung from a chain as a necklace. My constant is a color name and I used ROSE here. My carry forward is the embroidery floss and the eyelets.

And the final one is #25 with a prompt of TWO FAVORITE COLORS.

I planned to use pink and green as my choice. However, as people started posting their cards for this prompt, pink & green seemed to be extremely popular so I switched to red & green.

The red net behind the bird makes the outline of the bird a little hard to see. I should have edged the bird with a darker color. I might give that a try. It is mounted so it stands away from the background.  My color word is CARDINAL and my carry forward is once again embroidery floss. Something different that I used this time is the red/green paper for the background is made from magazine page. It is folded and refolded and scrunched and crushed until it becomes soft. This is helped along with a little vegetable oil on the fingertips as you work the paper at the end. You can still make out a pinecone on this piece but often the image becomes almost unrecognizable.

On The Upswing

After the last post, it seemed a good idea to do a follow up post to report that things are moving along nicely. This shot was taken before the remodel started.  The door at the end of the hallway leads into the bath now being remodeled. This is where the changes started.  The trim is off the doorway and the door opening will be enlarged to the width of the hallway. This shot taken of that same area now looks like this.  By closing the entrance from the hallway, that bathroom will now be the master bath by keeping the entrance from the bedroom only. This is how it looks from the bathroom side.  the door on the left leads to the hallway and the one on the right into the bedroom. Now it looks like this.  Part of the hallway has become part of the bathroom.  This is where the vanity will be installed.  The partial doorway you see on the right leads to the bedroom. Turning 180 degrees and looking across the room to the opposite cor...

Behind The Scenes

There is always so much that has to happen in a rehab that can't be documented as easily as progress photos or before and after shots.  Hours are spent selecting tile, choosing the perfect wall color, and even figuring out what shade of grout will make that tile sing. Then comes weighing in on the best pattern for tile layout. The internet is invaluable when searching for light fixtures, but it can also take you down the rabbit hole with the thousands of choices. This one is actually as long as it looks--48 inches.  Hopefully it looks good in place. (I know, weird looking.  It's upside down in this picture.) Speaking of getting lost scrolling through products on line, I got sidetracked for hours on one site that had 27,877 shower curtains. SERIOUSLY!!  It's easy to lose focus, Then there are faucets and shower heads to think about.  EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE WORTH A COUPLE  HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT A ...

Out of No Where

Isn't it uncanny how a project can sneak into an already crowded schedule? Recently a friend invited me to do a walk through on a two-family he was planning to buy.  A couple pieces of furniture had been left behind and they were dumpster material to him.  Did I go with him thinking there was something there for me?   NO. Was I looking for something in particular? NO.  Did the thought of finding a new project ever cross my mind? NO!  But, see for yourself.  Could you have passed this up?  It was sturdy (translates to a little heavy). There was nothing wrong with it.  It even had all the shelves and the pins that hold them in place.  And without the shelves it was not quite as heavy.  (Try telling me that as my friend and I are hauling it down a flight of stairs.)  More shelving on the side made it even more practical.  I'm sure they could be used for something besides VHS tapes. Here it is in my studio w...
