Mini Post #4 Wall Art

Several months ago my friend, Sally, gave me this piece of framed art. The mat had a little water stain going on so I painted over just the brown mat. I was not sure where I was going to hang this but finally decided on my bedroom.  Then it sat on the floor behind the door for a very long time until..... ...last week when I found this at the Green Shag Antique Mall. I determined they worked well together, so I purchased it.  The Eiffel Tower has a piece of plastic, rather than glass, covering it and I think I will be replacing that.  The refection factor is pretty intense.  In the process I may consider a second mat as well.  All that to be determined. I hung them for now while I think about those things. I'm also considering a different lamp for the table.  I may try that first before changing the hanging location. At least this mini project is moving in the right direction. And I can live with this arrangement for now. PS:  I fo

Door Decor Challenge

My cousin Diane came across a picture of a horse head made from greenery and used as a holiday door decoration.  It reminded her all the horse lovers in the family and she came up with an idea. (thriftshopcommando,BlogSpot.com) That idea started a chain reaction across the midwest.  From South Dakota, to Nebraska, to Missouri, to Colorado, the interest grew. Horses were a big part of Uncle Johnny's life (Diane's dad), and since we lived right next door to each other in our early childhood, they were a part of our lives too. We treated them like family, even bringing Rosebud into the kitchen one day when Mom was gone. It was not just Uncle Johnny who got into the act.  Here we have Uncle Johnny on the left, Grandpa Riibe on the right and my mom, Beulah, seated with my brother, John on her lap.  Oh, and Spot and Champ, of course. But, back to Diane's idea.  First she made one for herself and then she threw out a challenge to the rest of the fam

Mini Post #3 Gift Wrapping

This if more of a frantic last minute gift wrapping post.  Since money is always the best gift for my granddaughters, I try to present it a little differently each year. (found on sweetpaulmag.com)  This is an idea from Pinterest that looks pretty and gets the job done. I cannot take any credit for the beautifully decorated cookies on the top.  They were done by a friend who is a whiz with a pastry bag of frosting.  They are just too cute to eat, so I saved them past the point of being fresh.  But, as you can see, they worked out nicely as jar toppers. (PS: I only have two granddaughters but I made an extra one as a backup gift.) (found on etsy.com) I always liked the idea of using a belt buckle to cinch a ribbon onto a package. When I found this detailed belt buckle, I knew I would eventually use it on a package. Both my grandsons love trains right now so it seemed like the perfect time to use it. I chose the ribbon because I thought it resembled train
