Faux Bamboo

Sometimes when I buy something at a yard sale or resale shop, I just use it the way I found it until I can get around to altering it to my surroundings. Here are three pieces that fell victim to that fate.  I purchased this floor lamp at a charity resale shop about a year ago. This was a fairly recent purchase from an estate sale.  It is the stand for a globe.   This table I have had the longest...probably four years or more.   All these pieces have a bamboo look to the legs so I decided to attack them at the same time.   Both the lamp and the table will be used in my bedroom.  I like that they each have the metal piecrust edge to the tabletop area.   This piece will be in my foyer.  Doesn't it look better already and that is just the primer?   Since the lamp was already painted, I skipped the primer.  I mixed Woodmont Cream (BM), Favorite Tan(SW), and Candlewood Cream(?) toget...

Custom Vanity

Painting the vanity is my chance to put some personal expression into this new space.  Because there are so many options when it comes to paint,  it's often hard to narrow it down to one and stick with it.  As you will see, I didn't exactly get it down to one finish.  My inspiration started with, yes, a pin from my painted furniture board on Pinterest. Just forget you saw Cinderella above and let's move on with the step sister. Notice I didn't say ugly step sister because this piece is not ugly.  It has some nice detail on the top that will be raised up slightly, the top will be removed, and the new quartz countertop will slide right under the scrolls. Would I have liked something a little French?  You bet!  But I am hoping that painted, this piece will ha...

Disappearing Bricks

I'm on a roll now.  Wiping out the faux painting in one room has made it easier to tackle the next one.  The kitchen was done in a drywall mud tinted with paint and applied in a random manner to resemble a plaster wall.  To add to the effect, I left parts "unplastered" to show the bricks beneath the surface.  In this case those bricks were only painted on the wall with grout lines and the texture of real bricks. You can see some of these faux bricks above the stove, in the middle of the photo just above the countertop and above the shelf on the left.  Also note the light fixture.  I fell in love with this at Arhaus and when it went on sale it came home with me.  However, I started thinking this might also be one of those "owner specific" items and if that was the case then it is definately going with me when I move.  So a replacement fixture became the goal. I found this one at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $15.00.  They e...
