Love Those Alley Finds

Looks pretty decent, doesn't it?  That's what I thought too when I turned into an alley near my brother's house.  BRAKE!!  jump out, cursory inspection, a little smell test and BINGO-Approved for loading.  I was by myself and I couldn't risk letting someone else snatch this before I could get back with help.  So, no choice but to wrestle it into the back of the van on my own.  I've had some practice and if the will is strong enough, so am I. I searched my photos for any pictures I took at that time so that I could determine how long it has been sitting in garage, but no luck.  Let's just say, it's been awhile.  Why? Well, I really don't have a place for it.  It's really comfortable and I love the shape of it.  But, in spite of not having a space for it,  I decided to move forward and let the b uild it and they will come  philosophy take over. The first mission was to find a fabric that would go anywhere since I didn't ye...

Addiction Friction

Have you seen that little red bar at the top of my blog?  It is responsible for hours of my life this past week that have disappeared without explanation.  Pushing this button allows me to slip into a magical picture world that indulges all my addictions.  The second thing that has kept me from posting is that I am working on 4 new projects all at the same time and none of them are ready for a full post. I found this one on New Year's Day.  Believe me (or wait for the full post), this was not an easy task to get it this far.  Horsehair, dirt, batting, dust, springs, twine and lots of tacks.  There are some surprises on this one that I'll share when it is finished.  I have not chosen the fabric yet so ideas are welcome. This was a little easier to dismantle.  However, instead of tacks this one had really long staples and I still have a few to go.  I got impatient and started painting.  I do have the fabric for this one an...

Tea Time

Another piece from Upscale Resale just begging me to take it home. After a little dickering on the price and a reduction of $30, I agreed to make it mine.  Then it sat around until I committed to a color. But we all know what comes before that fun color part.  It's the cleaning and sanding and filling in the chips and dings. No, I did not take two months to decide on white.  This is the primer. A little fresh paint on the hardware of the wheels brighten them up. The dark knob in the middle is from the top drawer of the tea cart.  I bought the glitzy earings for $1 and had the other pair. Some stones were falling out of the glitsy pair but a little glue took care of that.  I decided if I could make them adhere to the original knob they would be my first choice.  I pryed off the earring backs and applied the glue. It worked!  And, yes, now you know the color. This is the original hardware on the bottom drawer. Here it is with spray primer. And here ...

Hand me Down

This cedar chest was given to me as an engagement present in 1970. It survived eight moves that included five state to state transfers.  Then it rested comfortably for over 30 years in one location.  Sometimes it had to be disguised to blend with the decor. When my daughter became engaged I thought it would be nice to pass it on to her.  To make that a more welcome present I updated it by painting the bottom and having the padded top reupholstered.  It took to the makeover with dignity and grace.
