Several times throughout this project I wished I had passed on this purchase.
Not that I don't love the style but....it all began in a dimly lit cluttered house. I saw these and although they were over priced (in my opinion) and I did get them for less than the asking price, I probably still paid too much. The owner assured me that a little buffing would bring the chrome back to new. WRONG! When I got them home I realized they were too worn in spots and chipped in others. I was not deterred. I would JUST have them rechromed. I had no idea what that costs, but I do now! Let me just say, it was not an option.
Although they don't look too bad in this shot, you can see that springs are high in some spots and low in others.
I explored the options for the frame and finally decided to have them sandblasted to remove all the chrome. Turns out the guy who did them was having a bad day, gave up, returned them to me half done with rough spots, and, didn't charge me. Frustrated but determined, I sanded and sanded, and sanded. I sprayed them with sandable primer and sanded some more. Then I had them sprayed silver at the automotive shop.
Definately not the same as chrome but I blew the budget early and there was more to this salvage mission.
I chose a vinyl and had them recovered.
Hot Pink goes Retro! With all new padding and
I am happy with the results and even happier to have them completed.

I didn't think I wanted to work with red so I picked another color. Can you guess? Something neutral most likely. That would be the sensible thing to do. But where was the sense in any of this project. It was a little late to start now.
some shiny new nail heads to dress up the backs, they are finished.
