Catching up on Two of the Challenges

I have two new Full Deck Challenge cards to post today. They are #11 and #12. Both lived up to the word "challenges" especially #12. But that's the purpose of the project. I just didn't realize it applied to every aspect from the concept, to the planing,to the techniques and especially the execution.

The prompt for this one was black & white with a splash of color and stencil or texture paste. If you are wondering about the number 10 in the upper right corner, that was one of the screw ups. This is actually #11. I decided on the gauzy overlay with black sequins at the last minute. I had already added some black dots as one of my items brought forward and the sequins overlapped some of the dots. My constant color is Magenta. The texture paste fulfilled the texture paste prompt.

Prompts for #12 were holes and drippy paint. My idea was to use donut holes and apply the drippy paint as frosting. In hindsight I should have given up on that at the very beginning when creating the donuts was not going as planned. But I plowed ahead and each element required me to find a way to "fix" the first try. All in all, a bit of mess. Hopefully I learned a lesson on this one. Chocolat is my constant word and the dots are my carry forward

ALPHABET CHALLENGE

I am going to include my latest collages for the Alphabet challenge in this post since I am caught up on the Full Deck Challenge. The prompts for D are: Document wallet, Daisy, Distressed and Decoupage.

This one is not without mistakes but it did come together better than the two above. There is a little tab sticking out on the left that is inserted in a pocket. Technically the pocket (document wallet) should be on the front but I had already glued another piece that the pocket was supposed to be behind, so I had no choice but to put it on the back.

Although the photo was not one of the prompts it really was the catalyst for this card. It's an old postcard with a handwritten note on the back. I had to give up the message for the photo but I thought it was worth it. The buttons are not part of the prompts either but it is okay to add extra items.

This is the insert for the pocket.

I wanted to show a close-up of the                                                button so you could read the name on it.

Following that we have E with the prompts: Emboss, Eight, Embroidery, and the Bonus: Egg.

Believe it or not I started with the egg and then aqua took over. The embroidery is at the center of the bow-tie. I chose to skip the embossing and substituted the bonus-egg.

And the last one for today's post is F with prompts of Fish, Flower, File Folder and Frame.

This one wanted to curl a bit but I am getting better at getting them to lay flat. I actually  did E and F before I did D. On this one I used the bonus-fish to replace the file folder.

I think I am caught up with posting but I do have a couple in progress so a new post should follow soon.

On The Upswing

After the last post, it seemed a good idea to do a follow up post to report that things are moving along nicely. This shot was taken before the remodel started.  The door at the end of the hallway leads into the bath now being remodeled. This is where the changes started.  The trim is off the doorway and the door opening will be enlarged to the width of the hallway. This shot taken of that same area now looks like this.  By closing the entrance from the hallway, that bathroom will now be the master bath by keeping the entrance from the bedroom only. This is how it looks from the bathroom side.  the door on the left leads to the hallway and the one on the right into the bedroom. Now it looks like this.  Part of the hallway has become part of the bathroom.  This is where the vanity will be installed.  The partial doorway you see on the right leads to the bedroom. Turning 180 degrees and looking across the room to the opposite cor...

Behind The Scenes

There is always so much that has to happen in a rehab that can't be documented as easily as progress photos or before and after shots.  Hours are spent selecting tile, choosing the perfect wall color, and even figuring out what shade of grout will make that tile sing. Then comes weighing in on the best pattern for tile layout. The internet is invaluable when searching for light fixtures, but it can also take you down the rabbit hole with the thousands of choices. This one is actually as long as it looks--48 inches.  Hopefully it looks good in place. (I know, weird looking.  It's upside down in this picture.) Speaking of getting lost scrolling through products on line, I got sidetracked for hours on one site that had 27,877 shower curtains. SERIOUSLY!!  It's easy to lose focus, Then there are faucets and shower heads to think about.  EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE WORTH A COUPLE  HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT A ...

Out of No Where

Isn't it uncanny how a project can sneak into an already crowded schedule? Recently a friend invited me to do a walk through on a two-family he was planning to buy.  A couple pieces of furniture had been left behind and they were dumpster material to him.  Did I go with him thinking there was something there for me?   NO. Was I looking for something in particular? NO.  Did the thought of finding a new project ever cross my mind? NO!  But, see for yourself.  Could you have passed this up?  It was sturdy (translates to a little heavy). There was nothing wrong with it.  It even had all the shelves and the pins that hold them in place.  And without the shelves it was not quite as heavy.  (Try telling me that as my friend and I are hauling it down a flight of stairs.)  More shelving on the side made it even more practical.  I'm sure they could be used for something besides VHS tapes. Here it is in my studio w...
