Full Deck Challenge #5-#10

I left off with #4 in light green in the last post and here is #5 in dark green. My constant is the words that are used to describe a color. Those words for this card are Emerald Green and Jade-Green. Both were cut from a dictionary. My carry-over from Card #4 is the butterfly.

This one is quite dark but that gives it a mysterious quality. I mentioned my plan to cover the number on the playing card from here on unless it worked well with the rest of the card. I did write the #5 in the upper right hand corner but you have to peek under the butterfly wing to see it.

Next card up is #6 in light blue. The words for this card are Powder-Blue and Azure.  The number is centered at the very bottom of the card and stamped in blue ink. There are two carry-overs. The last card had a green stamp on the right side and this one has a blue stamp on the right. The other carry-over is the butterfly.

Card # 7 is dark blue and the seven is stamped slightly off center. The color words are Cobalt-Blue and Navy-Blue. The only carry-over is that I used flowers on both cards.

Now that were are gaining momentum in the challenge, the prompts are increasing. The color for #8 is purple and the additional prompt is white splatters. My constant color words are Lilac, Dahlia, Violet and Grape. For the carry-over I used a purple glass stud with a silver rim. I took a little liberty and paired this with the navy button on card #7.

The purple pig is somewhat camouflaged by all those white splatters but it is there even if you can't tell that it's a pig. It is important to know since that is my carry over to the next card.

The ninth card is in pink with black splatters. My words for pink are Blush, Rose, and Fuchsia. The carry over is the pig.  we were also prompted to be free in our expression with this card, thus the word "free" on the pig. Number 9 is stamped on the bottom left of this card.

Last card for this post is #10. The prompts for this card were Vintage with brown splatters. So much for constant color words. I decided on Coral for this one which doesn't require an explanation. I was pretty happy with this one until the splatters made it difficult to see all the parts of the blouse pattern I glued onto the bottom half. Under her raised arm you might be able to see a drawing of the back of the blouse showing the button placement. Below that there is a part of the pattern picturing a scissors marking where to cut the fabric with the pattern attached. To the left of that there are two sections of the pattern showing where they meet on the shoulder. The three diagonal lines from top right to lower left signify  the dart placement. Where they meet at the bottom you might be able to make out the word Dart. The words Hollywood Pattern Company were cut from the pattern and glued on the left side of the card. The word Company got covered by the button and thread. And obviously the model was cut from the front of the pattern envelope. That little piece in the upper right corner is being held by a straight pin (notice it was before they added the colorful little nobs on the top of the straight pins.) And, yes, that is the number of the pattern.

On The Upswing

After the last post, it seemed a good idea to do a follow up post to report that things are moving along nicely. This shot was taken before the remodel started.  The door at the end of the hallway leads into the bath now being remodeled. This is where the changes started.  The trim is off the doorway and the door opening will be enlarged to the width of the hallway. This shot taken of that same area now looks like this.  By closing the entrance from the hallway, that bathroom will now be the master bath by keeping the entrance from the bedroom only. This is how it looks from the bathroom side.  the door on the left leads to the hallway and the one on the right into the bedroom. Now it looks like this.  Part of the hallway has become part of the bathroom.  This is where the vanity will be installed.  The partial doorway you see on the right leads to the bedroom. Turning 180 degrees and looking across the room to the opposite cor...

Behind The Scenes

There is always so much that has to happen in a rehab that can't be documented as easily as progress photos or before and after shots.  Hours are spent selecting tile, choosing the perfect wall color, and even figuring out what shade of grout will make that tile sing. Then comes weighing in on the best pattern for tile layout. The internet is invaluable when searching for light fixtures, but it can also take you down the rabbit hole with the thousands of choices. This one is actually as long as it looks--48 inches.  Hopefully it looks good in place. (I know, weird looking.  It's upside down in this picture.) Speaking of getting lost scrolling through products on line, I got sidetracked for hours on one site that had 27,877 shower curtains. SERIOUSLY!!  It's easy to lose focus, Then there are faucets and shower heads to think about.  EDUCATING YOURSELF ON THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE WORTH A COUPLE  HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT A ...

Out of No Where

Isn't it uncanny how a project can sneak into an already crowded schedule? Recently a friend invited me to do a walk through on a two-family he was planning to buy.  A couple pieces of furniture had been left behind and they were dumpster material to him.  Did I go with him thinking there was something there for me?   NO. Was I looking for something in particular? NO.  Did the thought of finding a new project ever cross my mind? NO!  But, see for yourself.  Could you have passed this up?  It was sturdy (translates to a little heavy). There was nothing wrong with it.  It even had all the shelves and the pins that hold them in place.  And without the shelves it was not quite as heavy.  (Try telling me that as my friend and I are hauling it down a flight of stairs.)  More shelving on the side made it even more practical.  I'm sure they could be used for something besides VHS tapes. Here it is in my studio w...
