Therapy Room Wrapup

Since this was now going to be a room in which I watched television, I would definitely need an ottoman.

It took a little looking but I found this one at Value Village.  It had a matching chair and the two were priced at $10.  They agreed to sell just the ottoman for $5.
The fabric swatch is from Hobby Lobby.  I needed something that worked with my floral chairs and because they are predominately a dark shade of purple, that is what I was looking for.  This vinyl swatch looked like it would fit the bill. (40% off with coupon cinched the deal.)

I also liked the fact that it had a goldish tan thread creating a crisscross diamond  pattern.  This color tied it even better to the chairs and the pattern kept it from being a big purple blob in the middle of the floor.

Last night I watched a movie with my feet elevated and it was downright comfortable.

There is one other piece I haven't mentioned that deserves a little background.

I found this chair in the alley with one arm attached only on the front end.  My brother added a doll rod and reattached it to the back.  (I am positive I took pictures of this but can't seem to find them now.)  So, moving on to this shot, I primed and painted the chair.  The vinyl upholstery just needed to be wiped clean.

Painted the chair in an olive color and it was complete at almost no cost.  (In case you are wondering, It's on the list to redo the flat surface of the desk and add some black to the trim.
 Now for the recap:

FLASHBACK to thirty some years ago when this was my sewing/craft area.  At some point it became my bedroom and now it is back to exactly where it started out at in the very early 80's.

Looking a little different, but then so do I.  Not so easy to "remodel" the self so I'll keep this about the decor.

In those days there was no central air.

As you know from the previous post, there are still lots of supplies in this room.  They are just more carefully concealed.

I still have the same drafting table but very rarely use it.

The view from this angle is definitely less cluttered.

I was trying to be organized way back then.  This must have been one of those tidied up moments.

Still a few loose ends to tie up but almost there.
Insert: This next picture was an after thought.
Just when I thought I was finished with this room, I realized I had this framed piece hanging in a bathroom.  Moving it to this room gives it new life and an opportunity to see it more often.

I played a little musical chairs with the rest of the art work and it is more to my satisfaction.

In case you missed the post on the burlap curtains, check them out.
The burlap lamp shade post is another separate post.
And the organization of closets is here.
I think I talked about most everything in the room except maybe
this vase.  I found it at St. Vincent de Paul thrift shop.  The materials in the arrangement are from Hobby Lobby.
In the next post I'll be switching back to the work being done downstairs.  I have not had dining room chairs for about seven months so I was off-the-hook for hosting during the holidays.  But that reprieve will soon be over.  I'll show you why in the next post.

On The Upswing

After the last post, it seemed a good idea to do a follow up post to report that things are moving along nicely. This shot was taken before the remodel started.  The door at the end of the hallway leads into the bath now being remodeled. This is where the changes started.  The trim is off the doorway and the door opening will be enlarged to the width of the hallway. This shot taken of that same area now looks like this.  By closing the entrance from the hallway, that bathroom will now be the master bath by keeping the entrance from the bedroom only. This is how it looks from the bathroom side.  the door on the left leads to the hallway and the one on the right into the bedroom. Now it looks like this.  Part of the hallway has become part of the bathroom.  This is where the vanity will be installed.  The partial doorway you see on the right leads to the bedroom. Turning 180 degrees and looking across the room to the opposite corner, you see the window and the en

Out of No Where

Isn't it uncanny how a project can sneak into an already crowded schedule? Recently a friend invited me to do a walk through on a two-family he was planning to buy.  A couple pieces of furniture had been left behind and they were dumpster material to him.  Did I go with him thinking there was something there for me?   NO. Was I looking for something in particular? NO.  Did the thought of finding a new project ever cross my mind? NO!  But, see for yourself.  Could you have passed this up?  It was sturdy (translates to a little heavy). There was nothing wrong with it.  It even had all the shelves and the pins that hold them in place.  And without the shelves it was not quite as heavy.  (Try telling me that as my friend and I are hauling it down a flight of stairs.)  More shelving on the side made it even more practical.  I'm sure they could be used for something besides VHS tapes. Here it is in my studio where I could do a complete assessment.  Looks like a good cleaning

Small Storage Containers RECYCLED

With the way grocery products have skyrocketed this past year, it has somehow made the containers they come in seem more valuable. To be transparent, I have always saved glass jars from jam, pickles, and spaghetti sauce.=) You know, small, medium and large. I also saved yogurt cups, sour cream containers, etc. When I was painting furniture and mixing colors, the small containers came in handy. This past summer I got a good laugh when I found a stack of yogurt containers in the back of a cabinet in my studio...at least 60! Needless to say those made it into the trash. More recently I have collected a fair amount of plastic containers with lids that are similar to the food saving containers you buy for that purpose. These are fairly large, about 5x7 inches and approximately 3" deep. They are great for leftovers but also good for storing a multitude of other smallish items. The bottoms are see through which makes them perfect for organizing hobby/craft and workshop items. But once a
