4 Chairs and a Table

The pieces in this post have been sitting in the wings for some time now.

This table was another "knock-knock" that appeared on my deck a few years ago.  I used it as is on my sun porch until now.

The chairs I bought at a moving sale.  I paid $10 for the lot.

The arms were banged up a bit so a light sanding was in order for all four chairs.

Two down, two to go.

The table has it's flaws as well, but it just made painting it more acceptable.

I primed everything except the caning.  That I painted with two coats of OC-23 Classic Gray.
The chairs and table base were painted Gateway Gray SW 7644.

The seats also needed to be recovered.

This is the fabric I selected and bought at JoAnn's with the 40% off coupon.

The seats had a foam pad and I thought the thinness of them was in keeping with the lines of the chair so I did not add extra padding.

I did the table top in Venetian Plaster.  I bought a gallon tinted gray to do the dining room table.  Now I wanted something to coordinate with my chairs.  So I took it to my favorite place, Paint Supply.  I showed Jason the fabric and the two cups of venetian plaster I had scooped into an empty quart can.  He took it from there and came up with this color.  I applied one layer of green, then a layer of straight gray, and then another layer of the green.  The coats are very thin and applied with a broad knife so they dry quickly.  A little sanding to clean up any high spots, some burnishing with the side of the broad knife and done!

The color match is actually better than this photo.    I couldn't seem to get the light right.

And bingo, a whole new look for the sun porch.

My attempts at staging start with what I think of first.  In this case I should have held off on the ice cubes until the end.

Ok, guess you get the idea that I'm lovin' my upcycled  porch furniture.

  1. I love the way the colors brighten the room so much. It has so much more energy with the color instead of all the wood tones.
