Due to self isolation, not much has happened on the remodel. I decided not to wait any longer to show some pictures even though there are finishing touches that require some shopping and some help from Dan.
As I refresher, I will attempt to dig up some old photographs. When the decision was made to remodel the second bath and make it the master bathroom, this is what you saw as you walked from the bedroom into the bathroom.
To the right there was a doorway leading to the hallway and to the left a door leading out onto a second story open deck.
This armoire housed the sink and bathroom necessities.
Standing in that same spot now, you see...
.. the size of the entire room without the armoire. No walls were changed in the remodel. However, the doorway to the hallway on the right was changed.
From the bathroom looking into the bedroom through the door on the right and into the hallway through the door on the left.
From the hallway looking straight ahead into the bathroom.
This shot from the bathroom side shows what was the door to the hallway. That opening was widened to the full width of the hallway, and a wall was constructed a few feet into the hallway.
This is how it looks from the hallway side.
And this is how it looks today.
Obviously the demo was in progress here but I wanted to show the same perspective as the completed shot shown earlier. That was impossible to get with the armoire/vanity in the way.
Also note that the window shown here has been covered over. It didn't make sense to have a window looking into another room and it was a must to put a regular tub in that location.
This shot shows the right end of the clawfoot tub and the location of the toilet which stayed in almost the same location for the new bathroom. There were some issues with joists and close quarters to relocate pipes. It would have been costly to have the toilet moved although I would have loved to have it a little further away from the tub. Sometimes compromises need to be made.
The one angle left to see is the doorway that led out to the second story deck.
Of course, this is the before shot. You can see the corner of the armoire on the right. This door is what now leads to a lovely room. The whole enclosing of the porch can be seen in this post. More about that here. And even more here. What can I say? It was a project that went on and on.
But, that's a story for another post. The doorway here stayed the same but the door itself was pushed out to make it flush with the walls of the addition.
It's a new door, by the way. And this is how it looks pushed back from the original casing.
And the "after" shot.
The details have been covered in other posts and some are still not finished. But for now, this is what I have to show.
Curtains hang on either side of the tub from floor to ceiling. I intend to hang the same curtain material on the door leading to the addition. They came 4 panels to the package. I used one panel to extend the tub curtains so that they reached the floor.
I found this little cabinet at Quintessential Antiques. I painted it. If you want to see what it looked like before, go to this post. I'm still looking for something to go over the cabinet.
As I said, finishing touches to come. When things get back to normal and it's safe to leave the house, I will find the decorative items I need to call it complete.
